AUDITION NOTICE

Casting for "Slaying Holofernes", a new play by Kiran-Durae Lambert

Performing August 7-9 2025 at Matrix Theatre in Detroit.

Slaying Holofernes is both explosive and demanding. It explores women's strength when banding together against a patriarchal system that works feverishly to keep their voices out of both the judicial and professional worlds. Mixing metaphor and life; this is a new piece not to be missed.

Must be 18+ years old to audition. All roles unpaid.

Character Descriptions:

ARTEMISIA: female presenting; young, painter, passionate. LEAD (CAST)

JUDITH: female presenting; 30’s to 40’s, strong outspoken woman. Needs to do some physical combat. LEAD

ABRA: female presenting; 40s+, strong outspoken woman, needs to do some physical combat, SUPPORTING

TASSI: male presenting; Painter, 20’s-30’s, arrogant, outspoken, entitled, LEAD (CAST)

JUDGE/PRIEST: male presenting; 30’s+ (can be much older), strong, attempts to be fair but clearly a product of a paternalistic society. BIG SUPPORTING ROLE

HOLOFERNES: male presenting;  30’s-40’s, physically fit, well versed in stage combat, no dialogue unless doubling as PRIEST. SUPPORTING (CAST)
