Summer 2025

Slaying Holofernes - written by Kiran-Durae Lambert, with Eric Daly; directed by Jennifer Little

Slaying Holofernes is a compelling, true-life account of the court trial involving 16th century painter Artemisia Gentileschi and her sexual assaulter, Agostino Tossi. The trial explores the issues of victim blaming as accounted through the court transcripts of 1612, and forces audiences to reflect on modern day parallels.

Has the #MeToo movement moved the needle forward at all? Is the woman still forced to relive and testify under duress, while her attacker sits in relative comfort - only in court because he failed to make her "legitimate" through the social construct of marriage?

Slaying Holofernes is both explosive and demanding. It explores women's strength when banding together against a patriarchal system that works feverishly to keep their voices out of both the judicial and professional worlds. Mixing metaphor and life; this is a new piece not to be missed.

Performance Dates: August 7- 9th 2025 at the Matrix Theatre
